John Bel Edwards: Louisiana

Heavenly Father, guard Governor Edwards from the pride that comes from being in a political family. Keep is family pure, and faithful to your Word.

Thank you, Lord, for his stand for life and personal  freedom. But I pray that his decisions might better reflect Your Word than the pressure from forces that bond consciences to worldly standards.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Matt Bevin: Kentucky

I pray to you, God, that Matt Bevin will continue to serve with an eye on your word. Protect him and his family from harm. I pray that the memory of his daughter will not diminish as the years go by. I thank you that he was in the position to set up a fund in her name.

Dearest Lord, I pray that in elections to come the two parties will be civil without the mudslinging found in previous elections. Be with him as he fights for righteousness to prevail.

In your Holy Name, amen.

Dr. Jeff Colyer: Kansas

Heavely Father, thank you for men such as Jeff Colyer.
Many people with his skills would be catering only to the rich and famous. Dr. Colyer purposely trained first for service before becoming a servant leader.

Now he is finishing the term of a governor pulled away to diplomacy for which he himself is probably more qualified. Bless him as he faces the challenges of election to the highest office in his state.

Be with him and his family as they prepare for the next step in life, be it politics or missions of mercy wherever he is needed.

In Jesus's name, Amen.

Kim Reynolds: Iowa

Guard her from the malice that opponents might display towards her. Lead her took make wise choices. Be with her family and keep them safe.

In Thy holy name, Amen.

Eric Holcomb: Indiana

Heavenly Father, I ask you today to bless Governor Holcombe in his efforts to govern the state of Indiana. He was taken by choice in a time of change and chose to face the electorate instead.

His time in a support role was very short, so he faces the job with an ambitious agenda. Grant him success but keep him humble.

In the name of our Lord,
Amen

Bruce Rauner: Illinois

Heavenly Father, I raise my prayer tonight for a selfmade man in need of humility. Bruce Rauner is very successful and is sincere in his application of fiscal responsibility in a state deep in debt.

I pray therefore that he think more of you and your law and less of the politics that have driven his decisions.

As he faces reelection this year guard both him and his opponents from slander and scandal.

In Jesus's name, Amen.

Butch Otter: Idaho

Heavenly Father, I thank you for men of conviction in politics. Men like Idaho's governor Butch Otter have bridged the gap in the long journey from the fall of a cold war champion to the rise of a populist President.

From state, to federal and back to the state, this governor has consistently stood for morality and decency.

Bless him and his family in his coming retirement from over 40 years of public service.

In the name of Christ,
Amen

David Inge: Hawaii

Dear LORD in Heaven, I pray tonight for David Inge, governor of Hawaii. His compassion for the welfare of his people has transcended the stigma of his Japanese descent to the highest office in the state.

Forgoing a chance at M.I.T, he received an engineering degree and an MBA and rose in the communications industry. In public service for over 30 years.

Lord, preserve him and his family as he faces reelection in the fall. Let piece prevail for all candidates.

In the name of Jesus, Amen,

Nathan Deal: Georgia

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the long public service of Nathan Deal to the state of Georgia. As he leaves office, please be with him and his family.

Thank you, Lord, for his efforts to keep the citizens of his state safe from harm, both domestic and foreign. Lead others to carry on what he has started.

Rick Scott: Florida

Heavenly Father, I thank you for raising up Rick Scott to govern Florida these last seven years. Bless this year with success for him and the state.

Lord, guard him from false accusations in the coming Senate election. May civility reign in the campaign.

Thank you Lord for using his education to benefit the health of hundreds. May he remain conservative in his continuing career.

In Jesus's name, Amen.

John Carney: Delaware

As I peruse the goal to remember all the governors in the coming weeks, I am finding it harder as I go along. It is Friday and I'm praying for the governor I should have done Tueday.

Anyway, I come to John Carney, whose son was or is a student at Clemson. With connections to our state, I can hope that I can muster concentration enough to honor this statesman politician.

Heavenly Father, bless Governor Carney as he works to better the lives of workers and children of Delaware. Bless his wife as she assists him.

Guard him from the mouths and pens that might attempt to harm his programs. I thank you for his work so far in over two decades in Deleware.

In Christ's name,
Amen

Dan Malloy: Connecticut

Heavenly Father, I lift up Governor Malloy in this final year as governor of the great state of Connecticut. I commend his good work in revitalizing the economy in his tenure.

Thank you LORD for working so much good with what to many seemed to be limited potential. But by your grace, he persevered, to become a blessing to his state.

May his legacy be that he loved his state and its people.

In Thy Son's name, Amen.

John Hickenlooper: Colorado

Heavenly Father, I lift up Governor Hickenlooper today, remembering his compassion towards the poor, the homeless and those affected by recent natural disasters.

I commend him for his willingness to change, showing the heart of a servant leader. In seeking reasonable control of legal, but dangerous things, he has demonstrated that government is for the common man.

As he looks to the future in the coming months, I pray that he looks to You. Be with him and his new wife Robin as they face the challenges of retirement.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Confession Time

I must confess, I subconsciously put off praying over the weekend. I read up on the governors of Colorado, Connecticut and Deleware, the first two even are termed out, and couldn't compose separate nonpartisan prayers for the three Democrats.

This is odd, since I did okay with Jerry Brown. I think it may be that Gov. Brown is a seasoned and principled statesman. These others seem more like young hopeful politicians in comparison.

And so, for tonight, I will be asking anyone who comes across this to pray for these men. This is especially true for those in these 3 states. I will try to get five prayers done in the next two days to catch up.

A prayer:

Lord, I confess that my bias, and any prejudice I surely have, has hindered my prayers. Be with the citizens of these states, and with their leaders in the coming days.

Be with me as I meditate upon what I know, so that I may know what to pray on their behalf.

In Jesus's name, Amen.

Jerry Brown: California

Father God, tonight I lift before you the retiring governor of the great state of California. Jerry Brown has shown himself to be compassionate to a fault, so to speak, in his illustrious political career.

Though the son of  previous governor Pat Brown, he was his own man. Or should I say the people's man. As he turns 80, my prayer is for his continued health. I also pray for his wife Anne  as she stands beside him in what we pray is a peaceful retirement.

This I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Asa Hutchinson: Arkansas

Heavenly Father, I lift up your servant Asa Hutchinson, governor of Arkansas, for his continuing service to his home state and this nation. Thank You for leading him to seek public service as a young man over 35 years ago.

In this election year keep him from harm as he seeks to extend his service one more term. Keep the campaign free of malice among the contenders.

I pray that his marriage and his extended family remains strong and well.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Doug Ducey: Arizona

LORD, I praise you for the men and women You have moved the people of the United States to elect to govern. Today I pray for Doug Ducey, governor of Arizona.

I pray that his family remains strong as he fights for traditional values. Let the legislation in favor of life over convenience prevail in the courts.

Continue the blessings of economic growth and fiscal responsibility in the state. Bless the success in training of children and adults to be productive citizens. I lift up the Second Chance program that is improving each year, as well as the extension of funding for public schooling.

Along those lines, I commend to You the efforts to assure all citizens the financial support to educate their children as they see is proper.

In the name of Christ I pray, Amen.

Bill Walker: Alaska

Dear God, who directs the paths of kings and servants, tonight I pray for Governor Bill Walker and his wife Donna. Thank you for raising him up through hardship for just such a time as this.

I thank you, Lord, that America's frontier is in the capable hands of a man who grew up there. In times like these, a man with his independent spirit is needed to make some hard decision.

I pray that there will be progress in the face of adversary as he and Lt. Governor Mallott work across political parties to move the largest state forward.

In Jesus' Name,
Amen

Kay Ivey: Alabama

April 2, 2018

Heavenly Father, I lift of Governor Kay Ivey as she continues her service to Alabama. With extended family members in this great state of the deep South, I pray for her family and friends in both Camden and Montgomery.

I pray for harmony among the socially divided groups in a growing economy. As Ms. Ivey faces another election, this time to the office her friend and family "knew" she was destined for,  I pray for a civil campaign free of political "dirty tricks".

Above all, I pray for her continued good health as she faces the challenges and rigors of public life at an age when most people are slowing down in retirement.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Take Two. 10 years later.

It is hard to believe it has been ten years since I created this blog. At the time, I researched and even emailed the governor's, then got too detailed with the prayers.  As a result, I only got about 30 posted.

The plan was to start the day after Easter and post one per day until Pentecost.

Feel free to read my attempts at nonpartisan prayers in interesting times. However, here, a decade later, on the day after Easter, I will be brief, with the help of Wikipedia and Facebook, to keep the pace up.

And, so, welcome Facebook friends and followers, to the 2018 edition of Praying For Our Governors.
